Summons Served: Anyone may serve a summons. If you’d like to hire someone from the Town, you may call Wayne Searles at (607) 237-1370.

Small Claims Information & Filing: If you are seeking to resolve a civil dispute involving a monetary claim of $3,000 or less, you may be eligible to file a case in Small Claims Court.  This process is designed to be accessible, efficient, and cost-effective – no attorney required.

To get started, complete the Small Claims Filing Form.  Once submitted, our office will guide you through the next steps, including service of process and court scheduling.  

All filings for Small Claims must be done in person.  Filings for Small Claims, Summary Proceedings, and Civil matters are accepted the first and third Tuesday from 1:30pm to 4:00pm.  Please complete the form prior to coming to court for filing.

Please note:  Filing fees apply, and certain types of disputes may not qualify for small claims.  If you have any questions about eligibility or procedure, feel free to contact the Court Clerk’s Office for assistance.

Methods of Payments:

• Online/Phone – Credit, debit and prepaid debit card brands (or any combination);
• Mail – Money order, or certified check made payable to “Town of Barton Court”.
• Drop Box (Outside back door) – *Cash, money order, or certified check made payable to “Town of Barton Court”. *Customer assumes ALL responsibility when leaving cash in the drop box.
• Walk-Ins – Cash, money order, and credit/debit/prepaid debit cards.

If you would like a return receipt, kindly enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.
